Know the Rules

Please find below an updated Matson Anglers Match Rules. Some changes have been made to protect the Fish and to been seen as a Serious Angling Club. Please Remember that you represent Matson Anglers and so any unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated.

Match prices are £15 Home and £20 Away. Some venues will need us to increase the prices by £5, these will be stated on the fixture list. To participate in Club Matches it's MEMBERS ONLY. To Join Matches please contact Nick Atkins or Mark Berry.

Please can I ask all Match Anglers to read the Club for Matson Anglers Matches, Thank You

  • 1 Rod Only (Pole, Float, Feeder, ledger)

  • Must have a valid Environment Agency Rod License

  • Minimum of 2 keep-nets, 3 recommended. One for silvers and carp upto 1lb, one for carp, NO MIXING OF FISH or NET DISQUALIFIED

  • Keep nets must comply with EA Bylaws - No meshes of metallic material, must be made from a super soft mesh.

  • NET WEIGHT Limit 50lb, anything over 50lbs up to 55lbs = Net weighed in at 50lbs. Any Nets that weigh over 55lbs will result in NET BEING DISQUALIFIED. Some fisheries allow bigger net weight however its about fish care

  • Carp over 10lbs to be weighed and released unless fisheries own rule

  • Match times are normally 8.30am Peg Draw with a 10am start and finish at 3pm unless otherwise stated

  • Lake Fishery Rules apply

  • No fishing match venue 3 days before Match Day resulting in being disqualified from the Match, most of our matches are on Saturday's so Wednesday would be the last day to fish the venue.

  • Damaged/injured fish to be treated with Care Kit

  • At the end of a Match left over bait to be taken home or thrown in Bin. Not into the Lake

  • Rods to be brought in when leaving your peg

  • Only 1 Rod/Pole out and anyone time, this includes cupping in bait on another pole, If your cupping in on a separate pole your main pole to be brought in

  • Ground Bait allowed in small quantities, No Balling in large amounts. When using Method/Feeder full rig set up must be in place with hook length (Home Matches)

  • No floating baits allowed. NO BREAD UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

  • Unhooking mats to be used at all times when handling large carp

  • STRICTLY NO Fires or Disposable BBQ’s

  • No Fouling of Banks by Angler’s

  • Alcohol and Drugs are not permitted

  • Please handle fish correctly and with care, no holding fish that could damage the fish or by the gills, fish care is paramount

  • The use of radios is permitted but kept at a minimal volume so angler next to you can't hear

  • Respect the Fish, Lake, Wildlife, fellow anglers and the public please

  • Litter, Rubbish, Cigarette butts to be removed from Peg when leaving and taken home

  • All fish to be returned to the Lake.

  • Matson Anglers are not responsible for any injury whilst fishing, anglers fish at their own risk or for any loss or damage to angler's equipment or vehicles.

  • Please drive slowly on Private land or round the lake

  • Abandonment - In the event of bad weather and/or in the interest of safety, Matson Anglers have the power to abandon the competition at any stage between the start and finish time. In such a case individual entry fees, less any legitimate competition expenses incurred, will be passed forward to your next match. Any fish caught during an abandoned competition will NOT count. The Match will not be rescheduled. Matches cancelled prior to the start time due to bad weather or an unexpected situation will also not be rearranged and individual entry fees, less any legitimate competition expenses incurred, will be passed forward to your next match .

  • Prize money awarded for Section Wins, Prize money split equally.

  • On weigh-in, each competitor will be asked to confirm their weights of each net weighed, this will then be entered on weigh sheet and total weight will be calculated. In the event of a disagreement, any dispute must be raised with match officials at that time before any fish is released.

  • MATCH ENTRY MONEY NON REFUNDABLE/TRANSFERABLE IF YOU PULL OUT OR CHOOSE TO LEAVE THE CLUB. ONLY REFUNDABLE IF YOU CAN GET ANOTHER ANGLER TO FILL YOUR POSITION ON THE MATCH OR FAMILY EMERGENCY OR ASKED TO LEAVE THE CLUB. PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU ARE 100% SURE YOU ARE ABLE TO ATTEND MATCHES BEFORE BOOKING IN. NO EXCEPTIONS.

  • Place on Match guaranteed when payment is received so the sooner you pay the more chance you'll be joining us. Payment made in advance either by meeting at Matson Lake, Online Bank Transfer. Final payment 2 day before match day, not on match day as long as not fully booked beforehand. (Saying I'm in or book me in does not get you a spot on the match)

  • FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH MATCH ORGANIZER REQUEST WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF MEMBERSHIP AND BANNED FROM FUTURE CLUB MATCHES

  • The committee have the power to change any rules it considers necessary for the good government of the Club

  • The committee reserves the right to expel anyone who conducts himself/herself in a manner, which is prejudicial to the clubs interest or breaks any of the club rules
